Gain freedom by learning to use the Internet. This is the initiative of Neema Namadamu, the ‘woman heroine’ of Congo. “I think that, through the Internet, women who live in rural areas of Congo and do not know their rights, which are not respected, can change their own lives,” says Neema. The Maman Shujaa Media Center, a kind of huge booth created by Mrs Namadamu in Bukavu and Itombwe, Congolese learn how to use a computer and are able to tell their stories in www.worldpulse.com: a network that connects women all around the world. Many young Congolese are isolated from the rest of the world and have suffered, and every day suffer, sexual assaults. They don’t even know that there are laws that protect them.

“Learn how to use the Internet means evolution and knowledge. For them, to tell their stories, to be able to sent emails and to keep in contact with people all around the world, means a way out from this weakness condition”, says Neema.

Mrs. Namadamu, renamed Maman Shujaa’, which in Swahili means ‘woman heroine’, also organizes theater’s plays against sexual violence. “I thought that, through the theater, these women have been able to learn much more than in a law’s lesson. The actresses and the actors are all young people from poor areas of the Congo who decided to act. Now they like it a lot!”, says, satisfied, Maman Shujaa. The actresses are the “Girl Ambassadors for Peace”, who have fun inventing and acting plays about gender equality.

These projects, started just two years ago, have already reach a remarkable success. In fact, frequently, new plays born and now more than 700 women have registered to computer lessons in the “Maman Shujaa Center”.

“Thanks to these lessons I knew many women around the world who lives my same situation and I learned that we can get out of this awful condition. I am very enthusiast and, every time I have the possibility, I encurage other girls register themselves in the center. Thanks Maman Shujaa”, writes the Congolese Rose Marie Feza in the forum of http://www.worldpulse.com. “For me it’s an incredible satisfaction” says, excited, Neema.

Maman Shujaa’s efforts have registered effects not only in Congo, but also in Burundi, Colombia, Uganda and Latin America. Neema recently met the USA ambassador in Congo, after have sent a letter, signed by 100.000 people, to USA President, Barack Obama. “This meeting had been useful to focus the attention of many media in our projects,” tells Neema, who never misses a chance to post on Facebook and Twitter everything she’s doing in her native country.

“I think my women’s situation is gradually changing. Doing it costs a lot of efforts, but it’s the only way through which they can escape from the ignorance and the weakness that’s always around them”, says, cheerful and optimistic, Maman Shujia.
